Canine breeding PCR panel

Test code:
P0034 - The canine breeding PCR panel includes qualitative detection and differentiation of the following canine pathogens using various PCR protocols:

These pathogens can cause sexually transmitted disease, fertility problems and abortion/stillbirth/neonatal death in dogs. Testing for these agents prior to breeding is recommended.

These organisms are difficult to isolate with routine culture testing (Olsen & Mather, 1978). PCR is a more appropriate methodology than culture for detection of these organisms.

The Zoologix canine breeding PCR panel is a powerful, cost-effective diagnostic tool. Zoologix performs this panel using highly specific and sensitive PCR test protocols to enable rapid, accurate diagnosis of infectious breeding problems in dogs.

All assays included on the panel are performed from a single sample, eliminating multiple sampling requirements.

Utilities:

  • Prevent the spread of these pathogens among breeding dogs
  • Help confirm the cause of reproductive problems in dogs
  • Selection of appropriate treatment regimen
  • Shorten the time required to confirm a clinical diagnosis
  • Minimize human exposure to listed pathogens

Specimen requirement: 0.2 ml semen (fresh or frozen), or 2 vaginal swabs (bitch), or 2 prepuce swabs (male)

Contact Zoologix if advice is needed to determine an appropriate specimen type for a specific diagnostic application. For specimen types not listed here, please contact Zoologix to confirm specimen acceptability and shipping instructions.

For all specimen types, if there will be a delay in shipping, or during very warm weather, refrigerate specimens until shipped and ship with a cold pack unless more stringent shipping requirements are specified. Frozen specimens should be shipped so as to remain frozen in transit. See shipping instructions for more information.

Turnaround time: 3 business days

Methodology: Qualitative real time PCR
