Tickborne disease PCR panel

Test code:
P0025 - Tickborne disease PCR panel. This panel detects and differentiates the following tickborne pathogens using PCR protocols:

Vets frequently see generalized symptoms that could be caused by a number of different tickborne pathogens. Recommended treatments and quarantine protocols differ among these pathogens, and some can be quite expensive and stressful for animals and owners.

The Zoologix tickborne disease test panel is a powerful, cost-effective diagnostic tool for use in these cases. Zoologix performs this panel using highly specific, sensitive and fast PCR test protocols.

The generalized Rickettsia assay detects but does not differentiate most common Rickettsia bacteria, including Rickettsia rickettsii, the etiologic agent of rocky mountain spotted fever.

The generalized Ehrlichia assay detects but does not differentiate most common Ehrlichia bacteria, including Ehrlichia canis and Ehrlichia risticii, the etiologic agent of Potomac horse fever.

All five assays included in the panel are run from one blood sample, eliminating multiple sampling requirements.

Utilities:

  • Confirm the pathogen causing symptoms
  • Selection of appropriate treatment regimen
  • Shorten the time required to confirm a clinical diagnosis
  • Ensure that animal groups are free of these tickborne pathogens
  • Early prevention of spread of these tickborne pathogens
  • Minimize human exposure to these tickborne pathogens
  • Safety monitoring of biological products that derive from susceptible animals
Specimen requirement: 0.5 ml whole blood in EDTA (purple top) or ACD (yellow top) tube, shipped overnight at room temperature.

For specimen types other than those listed here, please call to confirm specimen acceptability and shipping instructions.

For all specimen types, if there will be a delay in shipping, or during very warm weather, refrigerate specimens until shipped and ship with a cold pack unless more stringent shipping requirements are specified. Frozen specimens should be shipped so as to remain frozen in transit. See shipping instructions for more information.

Turnaround time: 3 business days

Methodology: Qualitative PCR and qualitative real time PCR

Normal range: Nondetected
