Equine breeding PCR panel

Test code: P0024 - Equine breeding PCR panel includes qualitative detection and differentiation of:

• Contagious equine metritis (CEM)
• Equine arteritis virus (EAV or EVA)
• Equine herpesvirus type I (EHV-1)
• Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus ("Strep zoo")
• Leptospirosis

The pathogens included in this panel are responsible for many cases of poor breeding performance, low milk production and/or sexually transmitted disease in horses. PCR detection is a useful technique for quick, sensitive and specific identification of the disease-causing agent prior to breeding. The ability to detect multiple pathogens from one specimen minimizes the inconvenience and cost of collecting, handling and shipping multiple specimens.

Specimen requirements: Urogenital swab, cervical swab or 0.5 ml semen.

For all specimen types, if there will be a delay in shipping, or during very warm weather, refrigerate specimens until shipped and ship with a cold pack unless more stringent shipping requirements are specified.
