Psittacine PCR Screening Panel
Test code:
P0026 -
Panel detects and differentiates three common, clinically
significant pathogens in parrots and other psittacine bird
species:
Avian polyoma virus
Chlamydia psittaci
Psittacine beak and feather disease
When parrots and other psittacines are moved
and integrated into new flocks, it is often prudent to screen
in order to identify asymptomatic carriers and avoid the
spread of these diseases.
The Zoologix Psittacine PCR Screening Panel
is a powerful but economical tool for diagnosing these
pathogens. The entire panel is run from one cloacal swab or a
small-volume blood sample, eliminating multiple sampling
requirements. A simple order form,
printed from our website and enclosed with your sample
shipment, is all we need to initiate testing. Highly sensitive
and specific results are reported by email or fax three
business days after sample receipt.
Utilities:
- Ensure that psittacine flocks and
facilities are free of these pathogens
- Early prevention of spread of these
pathogens among and between flocks
- Confirm disease causing agent
- Shorten the time required to confirm
clinical diagnosis and differentiation of infection by
several clinically significant pathogens of psittacines
- Minimize human exposure to these
pathogens
Preferred specimen:
Cloacal swab, or whole blood on Zoologix dry
card; or 0.5 ml whole blood in EDTA (purple top) or ACD
(yellow top) tube shipped overnight at room temperature.
For specimen types other than those listed
here, please call to confirm specimen acceptability and
shipping instructions.
For all specimen types, if there will be a
delay in shipping, or during very warm weather, refrigerate
specimens until shipped and ship with a cold pack unless more
stringent shipping requirements are specified. Frozen
specimens should be shipped so as to remain frozen in transit.
